Before and After School Programs (Grades K to 6)

Avon Maitland District School Board works with third party child care providers in order to offer before and after school care programs. In most cases these programs operate within our schools but some occur in another space that is near a school or a short bus ride away (note: transportation is provided by our transportation partners). AMDSB values the partnerships with the Before and After School Program providers as they support our students and families. The integration between schools and Before and After School Programs are a key part of Ontario’s vision for a responsive, high-quality system that contributes to the healthy development of children.

In the fall of each school year, AMDSB uses a series of viability checks to determine the need for Before and After School Programs for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students. These important viability checks begin with our newest students and their parents/guardians at the Calling All Three-Year-Olds registration events each Fall. Viability surveys are then also distributed to families of children in SK-Grade 5. If sufficient interest is expressed, then viability is determined, and AMDSB staff will seek a suitable third party provider, support them with the licensing process (if needed) and a partnership agreement is put in place.

The Before and After School Care Online Survey for the 2027/2028 school year is now available (survey link below). Please see the Frequently Asked Questions document below and if you prefer a paper copy of the survey, you can click here: paper copy. Paper copies can be dropped off at your child's school.
